At the weekend, I was invited to The Chequer’s Inn, an adorable little pub in Ettington. My initial impressions of the place were great – there’s not much I love more than a proper pub on a Sunday. Already it ticked all the boxes! Having just released their Winter Menu, I was thrilled to try out some great pub food.

As it was a Sunday, I obviously had to opt for a traditional Sunday Roast. The thing I miss most about living at home is Sunday lunch – every Sunday, without fail, my parents would cook a roast. So, any opportunity I can get, I order a roast.
I went for the beef and I am SO glad I did. Medium rare, thickly sliced, and plenty of it! Incredibly good smothered in their fantastic gravy! Another banger was their homemade Yorkshire pudding – who doesn’t love a Yorkie?!?!?! The roasties were lovely, although I prefer them crispier (still could just eat a plate full of them though..!). The one downfall, in my opinion, was their roast veg. There wasn’t a lot there and the only part I particularly enjoyed was the carrots. That said, I would still HIGHLY recommend their Sunday roast if you like 1) Beautiful beef, 2) Proper Yorkshire puddings or 3) Super tasty gravy!

My guest ordered from their main menu, opting for the beef burger. This came with plenty of cheese, gherkin, chunky chips, paprika tomato relish and salad. The burger itself was a chunky burger, which was great, and came with plenty of melted cheese. Obviously, that means it’s a winner! The chunky chips was an absolute delight (homemade chunky chips are my fave), although I would have liked to see more on the plate. Great burger though.. would order again!

A quick note on their decor – I loved the look of The Chequer’s Inn. It was cosy and cute at the same time, and gave the impression of being a great place to be in any season! I also LOVED their beer garden – I definitely want to come back in the Summer to have a few drinks outside!

If you’re looking for a nice day out with your family, friends, or significant other, take a trip to The Chequers Inn for some lovely food, vast wine selection, welcoming and friendly staff, and an all-round great experience. If you’re a pub lover, this is one to add to the list!
