Hot Chix: Nashville Chicken in Birmingham

I was kindly gifted all of the items discussed below as a PR sample. All opinions remain my own.

As a fried chicken lover, I was so excited to hear about Hot Chix, a new pop-up shop in Birmingham. Specialising in Nashville-style hot fried chicken, it serves a variety of dishes including chicken ‘sandos’ (burgers), tenders, nuggets and fries. There are also a variety of vegetarian sandos available, including faux chicken. See the menu below.

I was asked what I’d like and I was instantly attracted to the fried chicken sando with hot honey jalapeño and garlic sour cream. Sounded amazing. I also went for the hot chicken tenders and crisscut fries. So, what did I think?

Chicken Sando with Hot Honey Jalapeño and Garlic Sour Cream

This was a fried chicken thigh, and was offered with either mild or hot seasoning. I went for hot. It came in a brioche bun with the hot honey jalapeño, garlic sour cream, lettuce and pickle. The chicken itself was excellent quality. The flavours were insane – I don’t even know how to describe the hot honey jalapeño and garlic sour cream combination, other than that it was sticky and smooth at the same time. The hot seasoning added a kick but it wasn’t too spicy (in case you were worried about that).

Hot Chicken Tenders and Crisscut Fries

The chicken tenders were, again, excellent quality. Each one was massive and there were five chicken tenders in the box. The hot seasoning was perfect – tasty and crispy. The crisscut fries were a lovely addition and it was great to have something other than the usual fries (despite the fact that I love those too). There were 3 dips – dirty 1000 island, hot honey soy and garlic sour cream and Korean buffalo. All were lovely but the hot honey soy/garlic sour cream stole the show for me. Perfection.

The food was still hot when it arrived. Everything about it was a wonderful experience and I honestly can’t think of a single fault.

Battle of the Fried Chicken: Bonehead and Hot Chix

I wasn’t going to put this section in but I wanted to highlight it because I’ve seen a lot about how Bonehead now have competition and there’s only room for one fried chicken place in Birmingham. Bonehead has been around for a while, and is a restaurant/takeaway serving up similar menu items. I’m a huge Bonehead lover and often order it on UberEats. I’ve recommended it to loads of my friends.

So, which do I think is better? Honestly, I think they’re equally as good as each other. Both provide amazing fried chicken, and an array of sides and I love everything on both of their menus. I think there’s enough room for both – I mean, there’s tons of burger places, right? I can’t wait to enjoy both again – and as they’re both available on UberEats, I’ll probably be eating a lot of fried chicken!

Well done Hot Chix on serving up wonderful food, especially so early on in their launch. Now available on UberEats, Deliveroo and JustEat. Check out their Instagram for more information.
