I was kindly gifted all of the items discussed below as a PR sample. All opinions remain my own.

As a huge lover of curry, I was really looking forward to trying out a new Malaysian takeaway in Birmingham: It’s Makan Time. A new, and very small, business, It’s Makan Time is run by a husband/wife duo. They change the menu every week to bring us fresh tastes of Malaysia. See the sample menu below.

I was lucky enough to be contacted by the lovely Safiah who offered me a PR sample in return for an honest review and some exposure on my socials. I was very excited about this because I’d already heard great things about the food from fellow bloggers. I was sent 2 different meals – Nasi Lemak Birmingham and a Potato and Chicken Curry with Roti Jala. So, what did I think?

Nasi Lemak Birmingham

Nasi Lemak Birmingham was described as ‘aromatic coconut milk infused rice served with spicy fried chicken, spicy chilli paste, anchovies, nuts, cucumber and boiled eggs‘. The spicy fried chicken was absolutely lovely – there was plenty of it and it was cooked to perfection. It has a small kick to it but nothing I couldn’t handle! The coconut milk infused rice was truly lovely. I’d never had this before and it already sounded great when I read the menu. It definitely lived up to my expectations.

I wasn’t sure of the boiled eggs because they’re not really my thing. However, I dipped my boiled eggs in the chilli paste and it was SO good! I was so pleasantly surprised at this.

Overall, I thought this dish was great. A hefty portion, a good price, and incredibly tasty. Well done.

Roti Jala and Chicken Curry

As I said, I’m a huge lover of a curry. I may be obsessed – who can say? When I opened the package containing the chicken and potato curry, I got very excited because it smelled SO GOOD. I have no idea of what flavours were involved but whatever it was, I loved it. The chicken was great but the potato was even better. It was soft and just worked perfectly with the sauce.

The roti jala was something I’d never seen or heard of, so I was intrigued. They are described as ‘Malaysian yellow rolled crepes’. And they were such a pretty pattern too. This is something I’d probably never order myself but so great to try something new. Really good dipped in the beautiful curry sauce.

Further Information and Thoughts

Considering how small the business is, they encourage collection from B20. However, they do offer delivery to B20, B6, B3, B23, B42 and B7. Delivery is only available for orders £14 and above. They are hoping to expand in the future, and to do that they need your support now! Please check them out if you live locally – they are lovely people who make wonderful food at great prices.

I don’t think the food can be improved on much – it was all so lovely and the perfect takeaway. I absolutely loved it! One thing to improve on is the delivery and collection – it would be great to see them expanding to the wider Birmingham area. But, as I said, they have minimal manpower at the moment as they are starting to grow their business. I hope they succeed because I think it’s so great that they are bringing a taste of Malaysia to Birmingham.

Go check out their Instagram if you’re interested in trying this wonderful Malaysian food.

Thank you and well done to It’s Makan Time for the lovely food.
